Moving Day Is Made Easier With This Pre-Moving Checklist



6 Weeks Before

  • Make a list of everything in your house. Determine what objects require special attention while packing (such as delicate goods) and what packing supplies you will need.
  • Collect packing materials such as boxes, bubble wrap, tape, and markers so you can label your belongings.

1 month before

  • Inform companies such as your utilities, post office, and healthcare providers of your impending address change.

  • Begin packing! Begin with non-essential goods such as books, ornamental items, and clothing no longer in use, such as seasonal attire and formal dress. Don't forget to label everything clearly!

2 weeks before

  • Make a food plan. Please finish any perishable goods first, so you don't have to toss them away. Utilize condiments and other items that would otherwise consume up packing space.
  • Begin measuring furniture to decide what will fit through the door and what will need to be disassembled.
  • If you're traveling a great distance, make provisions for your pets. Keeping them out of the way on moving days will relieve your stress.

1 Week Prior

  • Prepare your appliances if you're transporting them. Drain the gas and oil from your barbecues and lawn equipment, and defrost your freezer.
  • Prepare a package of basics that can be readily unpacked. Must-haves are all must-haves: toiletries, prescriptions, light bulbs, garbage bags, and a small tool kit. If you're moving a long distance, pack for travel.
